Whether on a small or large scale, flooding can result in the loss of treasured family heirlooms or even your entire home.  Don’t leave it to chance.

Let me start out by saying that everyone in the Myrtle Beach area lives in a flood zone; it's not a matter of if it will happen, but when it will happen.

The danger from flooding is very real; approximately 25%-30% of flood insurance claims come from low risk flood areas.  Most standard flood insurance policies are very affordable.  Although as with any insurance policy, your coverage choice is a key factor in the overall cost of your policy.

Keep in mind that Mother Nature doesn't read the flood maps.

There is a greater than 26% chance that a non-elevated home in a high risk flood zone will flood during a 30 year mortgage period.  Many people don't understand just how risky the floodplain can be.

All property has the potential for flooding, but please be aware if your property is located in the flood plain (or high risk flood zone) because you probably have an increased exposure to flood.  In the past five years alone, all fifty states have experienced flash flooding damage.  Flash floods can produce walls of water up to fifteen feet high, causing severe damage to homes, vehicles, and property.  Vehicles can also easily be swept away in a flash flood.  (Refer to your Auto Insurance policy regarding damage to your vehicle.)

Many residents that live in a high risk flood zone are required to purchase flood insurance if they have a mortgage on their home.  Damage from flooding is not covered in most Homeowners Insurance policy.

Most flood insurance policies take a minimum of thirty days to go into effect, so don't wait until the onset of a hurricane or severe storm to purchase flood insurance.  At our agency, we have access to FEMA/NFIP policies as well as coverage through the private market.  If you would like a flood quote or need to know which flood zone your property is located in please give us a call at 843-839-9229 or visit us at davismasseyins.com.  At Davis & Massey Insurance we provide you with peace of mind at a price that's right for you.
