2018 is finally here! The new year symbolizes a fresh start and clean slate. It is also the time when everyone makes new year resolutions. What's on your list this year?
Some of the more common resolutions are to eat better, exercise more, spend more time with family, save money and career changes. Although research has shown that approximately 45 percent of us make new year resolutions, but only a mere 8 percent of us are actually successful in keeping them. Recent studies show that if you believe that your resolution is actually attainable, then you will be more driven to meet it.
Here are a few tips on how to help attain your resolution and enjoy a happy and healthy 2018.
Create goals: What do you want to achieve this year? Make a list of your goals and prioritize them. If you have a list of four goals try to complete one by the end of each quarter of the year– buy a wall calendar if it will help. This way you aren't overwhelming yourself with all four goals at the same time. Small changes can make a huge impact.
Find your motivation: What motivates you? Family, friends, success, money? Figure out what your driving factor is and use that to help you attain your goals in the new year. Stay focused on what you are trying to achieve.
Healthy Eating & Exercise: Healthy eating and regular exercise are behaviors that will benefit you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Healthy habits are often hard to develop and may require you to change your mindset, although these habits will improve your overall well being. Unfortunately you won't be able to change your mindset and behavior overnight, so be patient and take it one day at a time. But that doesn’t mean not to be persistent!
Clean & Organize your home: A clean and organized home leads to less anxiety and stress in your life. Go through each room in your home with three separate bags. The first bag is for everything that you will keep, the second is for the items that you will donate and the last bag will be your trash bag for the items that you no longer need. This method will help you clean out and organize your home in no time for the new year.
Clear out your mind: Get rid of negative thoughts and energy so that you can find peace and clarity. A clear mind can help you keep your goals in focus. Also make sure to take time for yourself and the things that you enjoy, this will help you relax and reduce stress. Spend the majority of your time taking care of the things most important to you (e.g., family, friends, and health); a moderate amount of time on less important things (e.g., house or car); and finally don’t sweat the small stuff.
